Numix is the official icon theme from the Numix Project. It is heavily inspired by, and based upon parts of the Elementary, Humanity and Gnome icon themes. It designed to be used along side the application icon theme Numix Circle. All icons variants contains Folders icons, System Settings icons, Indicator icons, Symbolic icons, and a lot more.

Install Elementary Tweaks
Similar to the way you change the themes and icons in Ubuntu Unity ( Unity Tweak Tool ), Gnome (Gnome Tweak Tool), you need to install tweak tools named Elementary Tweaks to change hidden desktop settings.
Open terminal and run the following command :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mpstark/elementary-tweaks-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install elementary-tweaks
Once installed, you will find Elementary Tweaks in the System Settings tool.
Install Themes and Icons in Elementary OS
If you are an experienced user, probably already know how to do. But for the beginners?, it would be helpful to know how to install new themes and icons in your Elementary OS. Open the terminal, and run the following commands :
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:numix/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install numix-icon-theme-circle
Change Elementary OS Freya Theme and Icons
Now when the new icons installed, this time to see how to change the default Elementary icons with Numix. Changing themes in Elementary OS is pretty simple.
Go to Application -> System Settings -> Choose Tweaks.
Under Appearance category, you'll see some options. They are :
- Prefer Dark Theme
- Metacity Theme
- GTK+ Theme
- Icon Theme
- Cursor Theme
- and Window Controls
When you click on it, it will show you all available themes and icons. If you need more icons for you can try the two below :
- Install Faba and Moka Icons and Theme For Ubuntu and derivatives.
